Privacy policy
1. What we collect
Your phone number, to sign you in with a one-time code. An email address only if you add one.
Your name, your @username and friend code, so friends can find you.
Your birth date, time and place, so we can calculate your chart. They are encrypted when stored and are never shown to anyone else.
Life context, only if you add it in Settings: your relationship, whether you have children, your work and your gender, each chosen from a short list and each optional. Only you can see it. It is never shown to friends and never used for compatibility. If you add your gender, it is used to tailor your readings: it sets the direction of your Chinese luck pillars, decides which readings that differ for men and women apply to you, and shapes the wording of AI readings (see AI readings).
Your approximate location, if you allow it, to work out sunrise, the Moon and today's timings where you are. Your exact position stays on your phone: only the surrounding area, about 5 km across, is sent to us.
The questions you ask the Oracle and its answers, the readings you run and their results, the items you save, your friends and what you share with them, and your credit history.
If you allow analytics, anonymous information about how the app is used and when it crashes (see Analytics).
2. How we use it
To calculate your chart, write your readings and answers, run your account and its friends features, keep the app safe from abuse (for example daily limits), and fix problems.
We never sell your data, never use it for advertising, and never track you across other apps or websites.
3. AI readings
Today, the Oracle and our AI readings (such as Dream decoder, Wish lantern, Choose your path and the AI rounds of our games) are written by an AI model from a third-party AI provider, called from our servers. The provider processes only what each reading needs, as set out here. For Today we send only the chart findings behind the reading: short labels such as “Saturn transits 2nd from Moon”, whether each is favourable, and their dates.
For the Oracle we also send your question, a short summary of earlier questions in the same conversation and, if you drew one, our own text for a tarot card. Anything you type in a question is sent, including names you choose to mention.
When you use AI readings like Dream decoder or Wish lantern, what you type is sent to our AI provider for that one reading and isn't stored by us. For the other AI readings we send only our own content and the signs or animals the reading needs.
If you set Life context, we may also send one short phrase about it, such as “married” or “working”, when the reading touches that part of life. To pitch the wording to you, we also send a short note about your likely stage of life: your age range (such as “30–39”) and whether you live in a large city, another town or abroad. If you added your gender, it shapes that note, but the word itself is not sent.
We never send your birth details, name, phone number, email or location to the AI provider. Questions that suggest someone may be in danger are answered with help lines, without any AI.
[The AI provider's data-use, retention and training terms for these requests, and the country where it processes them, to be confirmed by legal.]
4. Friends and sharing
Friends see your name, @username, your chart summary (your Sun, Moon, Moon star and rising sign), the signs and houses of your Venus, Mars and Mercury, today's compatibility as a percentage, and only the items you actively share with them. Nothing is shared automatically. If you unfriend someone, what you shared with them is hidden.
People can find you only by your exact @username or friend code. Guest accounts can't be found. Your account is private by default: people who aren't your friends see only your name, @username and photo. If you turn off “Private account” in Settings → Privacy & data, anyone who finds you can also see your chart summary and those three placements, but never a compatibility or anything you shared.
If you turn on “Let friends find me by phone”, people who have your number in their contacts can find you. When you check your own contacts, the app asks permission first, sends phone numbers only (no names), compares them with people who opted in, and keeps nothing: the numbers are never stored or logged. To prevent abuse, you can check up to 1,000 numbers a day; we keep only that count, for the day.
5. What stays on your phone
Names you enter for name numerology, I Ching questions and your palm answers stay on your phone. Dreams and wishes you type stay on your phone too, except for the one moment they are sent to write an AI reading (see AI readings). Only the result of the reading is kept with your account.
Starhint does not use your camera or photos today. A photo palm reading is planned: if we add it, the app will ask for camera access first, the photo will be used only to make that reading, and it will never be stored.
6. Analytics
If you allow it, we collect anonymous usage events (for example, which screens are opened and whether a reading loaded) and crash reports, using crash-reporting and analytics services in the EU. They are linked to a random number made on your phone, not to your account.
They never include your birth details, chart, name, username, phone number, email, location, questions or reading text. Turn analytics off at any time in Settings → Privacy & data; nothing more is sent from then on.
7. Who handles your data
Our database and sign-in host stores your account and database [region to be confirmed: India planned]. Our cloud provider calculates charts in Mumbai and does not keep your birth details. A third-party AI provider writes AI readings (see AI readings). Our SMS provider sends your sign-in codes, and our email provider sends emails you ask for [both to be confirmed by legal]. Crash-reporting and analytics services (EU) receive crash reports and usage events if you allow them. The app store you downloaded from handles purchases [when available].
Each works for us under contract and may only use your data to provide their service to us. [Data transfer terms to be confirmed by legal.]
8. How long we keep it
Your account data is kept until you delete your account. Oracle conversations are deleted 12 months after your last activity in them, or sooner if you delete them or your account.
Guest accounts that are not used for 30 days are deleted automatically. When you delete your account, everything personal is removed at once; copies in our backups clear within [30] days.
9. Age
Starhint is for people aged 18 and over. We check the birth date you enter when you start: if it shows you are under 18, setup stops there, nothing you entered is saved, and the phone only remembers for a day that the check was made. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 18, we delete it.
10. Your choices
Download your data or delete your account at any time from Settings → Privacy & data. You can change your birth details in Settings, make your account public or private and turn analytics off.
[Your rights under the laws that apply to you, such as India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and how to complain to a regulator, to be confirmed by legal.]
11. Changes
We'll tell you in the app before an important change to this policy takes effect.
